SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY

I studied a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Swinburne University of Technology. It was in my final year that I fell in love with research and knew I needed to pursue it further. I graduated with distinctions as well as the Dean's award for the highest grade in research.

RESEARCH UNITS

BIOMEDICAL PROJECT:

"Compare & contrast reaction time of tactile, auditory & visual stimuli: each stimulus must be completely verified and codified."

Participants took part in an experiment that included various tactile, auditory and visual stimuli tests. Capacity vibrators, gated tone and flashlight devices were used to record reaction times on PowerLab.

The reaction times for auditory stimuli was faster than visual tests, whereas the tactile stimulus was found to have the lowest reaction times.

BIOTECHNOLOGY RESEARCH PROJECT:

"Phenotypic and genotypic analysis of bacterial colonies found on various raw milk samples for the identification of pathogenic microorganisms."

Varying samples of milk derived from cows, goats and health food shops were analysed for the presence of pathogens and the contamination of E.coli and S.aureus.

Using bacterial cultures, gram stains, agglutination tests and PCR, it was determined that the milk samples contained traces of faecal contamination.
